TREVI BIKE STORY OF BRINGING BAMBOO BIKE INTO LIFE'S BREATHE

TTTD - Starting from a love for nature, after 2 years of tinkering with research, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen (in Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi) has launched a bicycle model made of bamboo. For Mr. Tuyen, the bamboo bicycle is not just a commercial product, it also contains national pride.
Sending love to the country's products
Bicycles and bamboo trees seem to be two things that have nothing to do with each other. However, with the will of youth as well as the skillful application of the results of technological research, the young man Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen has combined the two aforementioned objects in a unique product: Bamboo bicycle.

Mr. Tuyen said that national pride is the driving force that motivates him and his colleagues to research a high-quality "make in Vietnam" product. The guy born in 1988 shared: “When I think of making bicycles, the first material that comes to mind is bamboo. Bamboo is a symbol of Vietnamese spirit.

Moreover, bamboo has the advantage of being a very fast-reproducing species, from planting to harvesting it takes about 3-5 years. A cluster of bamboo, after being exploited, continues to grow bamboo shoots, the growth cycle is good, unlike trees, for example, if being cut down, it has gone. The bamboo that we use is grown bamboo, not natural bamboo, which also helps people have jobs.”

In fact, many people also intend to manufacture bicycles from other materials, such as wood. However, in order to make a frame with the required quality and durability, it must be a carpentry group with an age of 60-100 years. If so, the increased costs will raise the selling price, moreover, the regeneration of trees takes a long time and the cutting of wood affects the environment.

The process of "turning" bamboo into a bicycle
From idea to reality is a long way. The introduction of bamboo into bicycle production by Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen also experienced many difficulties before achieving initial success. Mr. Tuyen said: “Difficulty in the process of creating a new product is natural. When we are determined to use bamboo - an inorganic material to replace organic materials, we have to do a lot of research to overcome the limitations of the material to meet the criteria of durability, usability and weakness and also aesthetic factor for the product”.

Through 2 years of tinkering and researching, Mr. Tuyen and his colleagues have found a way to treat bamboo with new technology to protect the environment. Instead of having to soak bamboo for a few years, the new technology only takes 6 hours, but the bamboo frame is still as hard as steel, more flexible than steel. Specifically, from a lot of bamboo slats, using a technology called bamboo grafting (joining bamboo slats using special glue) and carbon autoclaving to remove sugar and lipids in bamboo, Mr. Tuyen produced a bike frame with high durability.

Bamboo is mature enough (3-5 years) to be strong enough to make a frame. A bicycle frame must be assembled from many bamboo spokes, processed in 21 stages, and takes about 1 month to complete. A bamboo is only used 15%, then through the process of carbonization, anti-termite, mold to ensure durability and longevity for the product.

Conquer the European market

Thanks to the uniqueness, grasping the green living trend, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen's bamboo bicycle products have been well received both at home and abroad. In 2020, Vietnamese bamboo bicycles were present in the Netherlands, France, and Norway and had a representative office in Germany. In addition, bamboo bicycles also appear on Macedonia television as a green living solution.

Mr. Tuyen expressed: “When we laid the first foundation for a bamboo bike - Trevi Bike in the international market, especially the extremely harsh European market, we had to go through many difficulties and barriers in terms of sales. difference. However, Trevi Bike is fortunate to have built a team of advisors who understand the market, plan well and, importantly, quickly grasp the criteria that fastidious customers like European customers can be satisfied with."

In the European market, the reason we chose the Netherlands is because the demand for bicycles in the Netherlands, the largest in the world, is larger than the population of this country. The population of the Netherlands is about 17 million, but bicycles are used by about 21 million vehicles. People say the Dutch were born on a bicycle. The Dutch people's mindset is to like sports and protect the environment, so we decided to choose the Netherlands as the first place to open the market outside of Germany. The Berlin showroom is like the general representative in Europe.”

The acceptance of the market as well as the praise did not make Mr. Tuyen fall into complacency. On the contrary, this guy still has a lot of plans to develop other products, taking full advantage of the strengths of Vietnam's traditional materials, bamboo, which are environmentally friendly and functional. use. “One day, bamboo products from Vietnam will be available in many countries around the world. That is my dream,” said Mr. Tuyen.
